Myfanwy Jones produced her first novel - illustrated and hand-bound - at age nine, entitled Piss Weak Tea and Buns. While not commercially successful, it did resonate deeply with a local audience. Book groups were held over dinner and structural problems discussed (perhaps wool would have been better than string for the binding?). She decided she wanted to be a writer.
After completing a psychology degree, Myfanwy worked in Vietnam for two years during the mid-1990s as a writer and sub-editor before returning to Melbourne to study professional writing and editing at RMIT. She has had short stories published in numerous journals and anthologies including Penuin's 2007 celebration of falling in love, How We Met, and an anthology celebrating her favourite independent book shop, Readings and Writings.
Myfanwy's debut novel, The Rainy Season, was published by Penguin Books in March 2009 and went on to be short-listed for the The Melbourne Prize for Literature's Best Writing Award. Parlour Games for Modern Families, a playful collaboration between Myfanwy Jones and Spiri Tsintziras, was published by Scribe in October of the same year and was awarded Best Book for Older Children in the 2010 Australian Book Industry Awards.
Myfanwy lives in Melbourne with her young family, old dog and a couple of spiny leaf insects. When she is not writing, she is playing games. She is represented by Jacinta di Mase Management.
